I don’t know how many Rohit Sharma fans are out there, but every single one out there will agree to me when I say it is one of the toughest things to be a fan of Rohit Sharma. Innumerous trolls, jibes and jokes targeted at you every time he underperforms, people questioning your cricket knowledge for being his fan are all a part of day to day routine of a fan of Rohit Sharma. In most of the Whatsapp group I’m in, I am the only Rohit Sharma fan and I believe that is the case with most of his fans. Believe me it is not easy to switch on the internet and go and see the whatsapp groups when he fails and he fails most times than he performs. They call him Maggi, they call him NoHit and they give names that can’t be mentioned here.
Despite knowing all this why am I a fan of Rohit .
My parents keep telling me that I underperform to my potential.
My teachers keep telling me that I am very careless and that affects me.
My friends keep telling me that I am complacent and that’s what is keeping me away from everything I could become.
And Rohit Sharma is all that.
He can play the most beautiful shot in the game of cricket and he will follow it up with a lazy poke outside off stump. He might have pulled of a best catch in the match but his body languages suggests laziness. He has a brilliant cricketing mind and yet he looks like he cares nothing in the pitch. I love everything about him. He keeps me glued to the TV when he plays and he makes me break the remote when he gets out. He gives so much joy and an equal amount of frustration.
He is so much like me which is why my love towards him never declines. Yes Virat Kohli is the world’s best player right now but it is Rohit Sharma who gets my attention. Blame it on my bad choices or blame it on my cricketing knowledge. I may agree to some of your claims and I may accept some of your points but I may never stop liking Rohit Sharma because he is so much representation of me. He is in cricketing field what I am in my life. A lazy elegant player who could have become much more but remains happy with who he is now and that’s how I am. I could have become much more with little more efforts or little more carefulness but I am happy how I am and what I am today and I will continue to be happy with that. You call it lack of aspiration, I call it contentment.
This is why I guess I like Rohit despite everybody's innumerable trolls and I don't see it changing ever like forever.
